We are thrilled to share the CommunityFirst Framework!
The document responds to the growing call within the humanitarian sector to transform the way that we work with communities - moving away from treating them as beneficiaries, and towards creating equitable partnerships.
It has been created by SeeChange in collaboration with communities, Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) teams in Peru, Sierra Leone, and Venezuela, and many colleagues who have shared their rich knowledge and experiences. It draws on insights from community-based participatory action research (CBPAR).
The CommunityFirst framework can help MSF project teams co-design humanitarian responses with communities through a four-phase process: Connect, Engage, Activate, and Reflect.
